The company:

Our client is an influential global leader and rapidly growing SaaS technology company
that provides comprehensive software solutions to the clinical research industry. Their
vision is to reshape the global clinical research landscape with innovative solutions that
help advance medicine and save lives. Their cloud-based platform is dedicated to
solving complex industry problems and simplifying clinical research processes to be
more organized, eMicient, and cost-eMective. While headquartered in San Antonio, TX,
our client operates as a fully remote and telecommuting organization.

Role and responsibilities:
The Product Lead Engineer serves as the technical authority across multiple Agile
scrum teams within a vertical product. While carrying no direct personnel management
responsibilities, this role holds the highest technical voice within the team—setting
direction, making key implementation decisions, and ensuring the delivery of reliable,
well-engineered software. Beyond their own individual contributions, the Product Lead
Engineer acts as a player-coach whose output elevates the technical capability of the
entire team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Team Leadership: Serve as the primary technical authority within development teams, making implementation decisions, resolving technical disagreements, and enforcing high engineering standards.
  • End-to-End Delivery: Lead end-to-end delivery of complex features across backend, frontend, and mobile platforms—from design through deployment and monitoring—while guiding teammates through their deliverables.
  • Task Scope & Optimization: Decompose ambiguous requirements into well-scoped tasks, while proactively identifying and addressing technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
  • Hands-On Development: Actively contribute production code as a consistent, high-quality committer, modeling technical excellence across the organization.
  • Code Quality & Reviews: Conduct thorough, constructive code reviews that improve software quality and accelerate the professional growth of junior engineers.
  • Mentorship & Coaching: Mentor software engineers through pair programming, architectural design discussions, and ongoing technical guidance.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Drive best practices across testing, git branching strategies, technical documentation, and application security.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and Customer Success teams to clarify requirements, provide accurate estimations, and deliver features on schedule.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate technical risks, progress, and engineering tradeoMs clearly and proactively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Technical Ownership: Take primary ownership of significant product areas— maintaining deep architectural expertise and serving as the authoritative SME for architectural decisions and production issues.
  • Knowledge Transfer & Resilience: Lead structured knowledge transfer across owned areas to ensure team resilience and avoid single points of failure, while actively expanding familiarity across other product areas.
  • Performance Standards: Technical Quality: Code, design patterns, and architectural decisions consistently meet peer review standards without requiring significant rework.
  • Debt Reduction: Technical debt and reliability risks in owned product domains trend downward over time.
  • Delivery & Reliability: Complex features are delivered on schedule with accurate estimation, with risks surfaced early alongside proposed mitigations.
  • Incident Resolution: Production incidents within owned domains are resolved rapidly with durable, long-term root-cause fixes.
  • Mentorship Impact: Software engineers working with this role show clear improvement in code quality and technical judgment.
  • Technical Influence: Technical recommendations gain immediate trust from peers and engineering leadership without requiring repeated validation.

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience in production SaaS environments.
  • Deep proficiency in PHP and JavaScript / React, including design patterns, performance optimization, and web security best practices.
  • Strong command of relational database design, SQL query optimization, and data modeling (MySQL / MariaDB).
  • Demonstrated track record of mentoring, pairing with, and upskilling less experienced software engineers.
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted engineering tools and developer workflows.
Desirable Qualifications (What Sets You Apart):
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience with full-stack ownership in a cloud environment.
