Job Title: Head of Security 

My client are  looking for a senior security engineering leader to shape and scale our security engineering capabilities in a complex, cloud-first environment.

This role combines leadership, architecture, and hands on engineering. You will lead a small but high-impact team while remaining close to technical decision-making, helping to design and implement secure, scalable systems.

You will work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to embed security into development and operational processes, ensuring security supports innovation rather than slows it down.

Leadership & team development

• Lead, mentor and grow a team of security engineers across multiple domains
• Set priorities and drive delivery against a defined security engineering roadmap
• Promote a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous improvement
• Partner with senior stakeholders to align security initiatives with business risk

Security architecture & engineering

• Own and evolve the organisation’s security architecture and core tooling
• Design secure, scalable solutions across cloud-native and hybrid environments
• Evaluate and rationalise security technologies, ensuring effectiveness and simplicity
• Contribute directly to technical problem-solving and key design decisions

Cloud & infrastructure security

• Define and enforce security standards across cloud platforms and infrastructure
• Support secure design of containerised and distributed systems
• Ensure strong access control models and adoption of zero trust principles
• Guide engineering teams on secure infrastructure patterns

DevSecOps & application security

• Embed security controls into CI/CD pipelines and development workflows
• Support secure coding practices, threat modelling and design reviews
• Work closely with engineering teams to drive “shift-left” security
• Help teams balance delivery speed with security requirements

Detection, response & automation

• Improve detection capabilities through better logging, monitoring and engineering
• Drive automation across security operations to improve efficiency and response
• Use scripting and engineering approaches to integrate and scale security tooling
• Define meaningful KPIs and metrics to track effectiveness

Requriements

• 10+ years’ experience in security engineering or broader information security roles
• Experience leading and developing technical security teams
• Strong hands-on background in cloud security (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Solid understanding of identity and access management concepts and controls
• Experience with detection, monitoring, or security operations tooling
• Knowledge of modern infrastructure (containers, cloud-native environments)
• Experience working closely with engineering and DevOps teams
• Ability to design and implement scalable security solutions
